Rangel, under fire, steps down from committee chairmanship

Rangel's situation has nothing to do with his blackness. It has to do with ehtics violation. Yes Rangel, Paterson and Ford are all black but their blackness is not the central issue in any of these situations.

Its still a great day to be a black politician, Rangel was not following the rules and thought he was above them, so, in this case has nothing to do with his being black.

I personally don't think he done anything wrong but he's drawing to much attention. When will black politicians learn that we blacks are held to a different standard then our white counterparts? We have to walk a line ten times thinner then they have to. Don't even think your gonna be playing the same game the whites do. You'll always be held to a different standard. Always.......

JamesP, you're kidding right? Rangel did not report income or pay taxes on income generated from Condo rentals for a decade. This is only 1 simple and plain, black and white violation of law he committed - and he's the head of the committee to crack down on this stuff? Anyone else would go to Jail, be fined heavily. You JamesP are the "black problem". Blacks making excuses for other Blacks, even when it's clear as a bell that other Black person is dead wrong. You won't even concede and admit Rangel did anything wrong for crissakes. Rangel does not have 1 plain and simple, black and white clear violation, he has about A DOZEN! Rangel and many Black politicians rely on collective Black ignorance and foolishness to get over. Blacks are a trip, the mayor of DC can smoke crack on video, get arrested, yet some Blacks excuse it saying "he was set up", and even more Blacks don't mind law breaking as they voted his foolish behind back in office! If you refuse to acknowledge Rangel has committed multiple basic and simple inexcusable violations of law, you probably also think OJ is innocent, right? Gotcha!

I've been warning you bloggers here for the last couple of years.This is the result of the Bush Attorney general going after key Black politician in democratic strongholds.La.cong.,Atlanta former mayor,detriot former mayor,cong.in florida.They been trying to take down Congressman Rangel. All the Black mayors,congressman and other political officials are having their where abouts questioned and monitored all over the country. Unfortunately we as Black Americans take one foot forward and the devil try to pull us back two.

Anon, don't even start with that foolishness because it's a KNOWN FACT that if Black politicians do the dirt that their White counterparts engage in daily, they will be busted and humiliated as long as its politcally expedient. This whole charade is to discredit Speaker Pelosi and President Obama by the GOP. Congressman Rangel has been doing this for years and as soon as the President is about to thwart the GOP obvious attempts to thwart his agenda, up pops this ethics investigation against Rangel. (Ethics Investigation, what a freaking joke! Politicians have no ethics!) The whole system is corrupt and yes, shame on Rangel for his part, but don't be a fool. Rangel isn't the first and he won't be the last, he's just the biggest for now. Black politicians are getting too much juice now, Old Jim Crow has to cut them down to size to let them know he's still running things.

This is sad, the "conspiracy" that is furthered here. So Rangel is a fall guy? And Congressman William Jefferson, you know, the Black politician that took $400,000 in bribes, he was videotaped taking $100,000 in bribes in a suitcase at a hotel, and of course the now famous $90,000 in cash he had stashed in his freezer. But Congressman Jefferson, despite all the evidence, he's innocent, right? Just another victim of how "The Man" is taking down Black Politicians, right? He was "targeted" by "The Man" right? Oh, this is terrible, Congressman Rangel and Jefferson are victims, victims I say and we should hold a protest, a March On Washington to clear their good names. Don't believe the facts ya'll. The White Man controls the facts. The White man made Congressman Jefferson take a suitcase with cash on videotape, the White Man made Congressman Jefferson place $90,000 in cash in his Freezer, it's the White man I say that is out to ruin Blacks Politicians like the honest, good, and always lawful Charles Rangel.

If you are black man and accused of a crime must step down or go to jail, if you are white man and commit a crime you go to the Senate.

They very thought that Pres. Clinton while in office, could have a women that worked for him go down on her knees and pleasure him, lie about it and keep his job as President.

The gov. of South Carlina, hell it's just to many to name. Didn't the Sec. of Treasury fail to pay his taxes, does he have a job?

I don't think either Charlie Rangel's situation or Governor David Paterson's mess have anything to do with race !!! I live in NYC and I've seen how inept and indecisive our governor has been and in this case, the cover up is worse than the actual misdeed in this case !!! I'm sensitive to race related issues, but race is not the issue here !!! Whether they like it or not, they've come under scrutiny, not because of their race, but because of their lack of ethics and inability to effectively govern as a result of it !!! Charlie Rangel falied to disclose income, did not pay taxes on said income, failed to disclose income on his Dominican villa, had 4 apartments at his disposal at well below market rate rent and the list goes on !!! Governor Paterson intervened in a domestic violence issue and used his authority to have state troopers contact the victim to "give her options", as it were... He has failed to act with regard to New York's budget woes, he allowed the state legislature to be high jacked by 4 renegade Democrats and sat by powerless... he's an accidental governor and he has proven time and time again that he's not up to the task.. he would have been trounced in the primaries had he continued to run as he threatened to... His days are numbered and hopefully we can get someone who knows how to govern !!!

Anon: No one is saying that the above mentioned Black politicians are innocent. They are saying Black politicians cannot get away with wrong doings that White politician have been doing with immunity since the beginning of time. Black politicians are under constant scrutiny and should act accordingly. Black politician are usually cut down to size at the opportune or inopportune time, whichever away you want to look at it. By the way, I have never supported any politician, Black or White caught up in PROVING wrong doings. However, the facts of differences in treatment cannot be ignored.
