Mo'Nique wins the best supporting actress Academy Award for her role as an abusive mother in "Precious". The actress and comedienne, who hosts The Mo'Nique Show on BET, had been considered the front-runner and racked up supporting actress wins at the Golden Globes, Spirit Awards and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, among many others.
Mo'Nique becomes the fifth black woman to win an acting Oscar on tonight, some 70 years after Hattie McDaniel became the first to do so for "Gone with the Wind." "I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all she had to so that I would not have to," Mo'Nique said in accepting the Oscar.
In one of the first big surprises of the evening, Geoffrey Fletcher just won the best adapted screenplay Oscar for "Precious" and beat expected winners Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner for "Up in the Air." Mo'Nique's performance as Mary Jones was riveting. Watch her acceptance speech at Rod 2.0 or below.

You know, I am really tired of people saying that Hollywood honored "us" by promoting our worst behavior. Well news flash people. We are are worst behavior.
I see it everyday in the lives of black people who show no love toward each other. We look at each other with hate in our eyes, in our souls. It's easy to blame others when you are the problem.
I can tell you from life experiences, that most of my issues came from people who look like me: People of colour. The very same group of people who should have been been busy honoring one another instead of tearing each other down
Mo'Nique did an outstanding performance in here role. And she was honored for that.
