Democrats celebrate historic victory for health care reform

The $940 billion bill will expand coverage to 10 to 15 million Americans, mandate that another 15 to 20 million Americans dig into their own pockets to buy junk insurance (some with the help of a coupon), and allow another 20 million people by way of means testing to be exempted from the mandate which would leave them uninsured.

......And it is now illegal to buy prescription drugs from Canada even though they are the same drugs made right here in America.

This significance of this vote to those who write history books simply cannot be overstated. 1933. 1964. 1965. 2010. 'nuff said.

Don't forget the prescription drug benefit of 2003 or SCHIP in 1997.

Perfect, no; not by a long shot. Required; yes, as the gateway to better coverage (e.g., single payer, aka Medicare E or Medicare for everyone). Now I don't have to worry about coverage for my child as she works for her PhD. Now my friend doesn't have to worry about coverage for his sick wife. As for the other point: Why should American drug companies sell their products cheaper in foreign markets? That practice seems un-American to me.

I think it's great that Democrats did something unfortunately they did something that could cost us power. I think the process proves it's time for a Major Third Party. I'm suggesting "The WE Party." It has a simple motto "We Listen, We Understand, We Vote and We Party." Our power comes from our unity and accountability to the group not the individual. We would be electronically wired to improve communications and we'd give credit to the "Little People" that give us their best and brightest ideas for the future. We listen and would never slam the doors to the White House or the debate on anyone. Give a fool a microphone and they only expose themselves as a fool. Give the mic to someone who knows the truth and we will all listen, understand, vote and then We Party.

About time they stood up the party of hate and no alternatives and did what's right for the public and not the pockets of the GOP's memebers via all thte coins they get from the insurance industry.

Cecil, you already have such a thing. It's called the Tea Party which coincidentally rhymes with your We Party.

I'm not happy with parts of the bill but I guess it's good it passed.

I don't know what's to celebrate about? by the time the senate gets through with it, it will be so water down it wil be unrecognizable. This is really Obama's gift to the insuance and pharmaceutical companies.

@Justin, this legislation is not perfect. What legislation is? Tell you what, this healthcare reform is certainly better than the status quo. Besides it's too early to judge it's impact, both Medicare and Social Security had it's nay sayers now we can't even imagine life without them.

Tjr, I've been hearing lately that it's not a perfect bill and that improvements will come incrementally. And how do they based that on? Do they know for sure? This is just quid pro quo for the Democrats. They're hoping this pays off comes election time.

Partisan democrats used to hate Romneycare. All it takes is some backroom deals and a continuous string of sell outs to get them comparing Romneycare to Medicare. What a joke!

And how do they base that on? There have been improvements in all major legislation in the past after becoming law.

Tell this to the mother who no longer has to be concerned that her baby would be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition. Tell this to the college student that can now stay under his/her parents coverage till age 26. Tell this to someone that just lost their jobs but won't have to worry about coverage if they get sick.

tjr, that all sounds nice and all, but some things that were never mention. Not everone will be covered under this reform. Infact, at lest 25 or so million with be underinsured. And what about the quality of care folks will recieve? And will it cut out the bueaurcratic red tape that's compounding care in emergency rooms? And will it cover all procedures like dental and such? I'm still not convince.

@Justin, so what's your solution then? Do absolutely nothing? No legislation is perfect Justin, we don't live in a perfect world. There will forever be people suffering, the least we can do is help some of them. Half a loaf is better than none.

Tjr, I'm not loking for perfection, I'm looking for something that works! Of all industrilized countries with efficent healthcare, we rank 21st. If this the best that the most richest and powerful country can do, then we shouldn't be beating our chests and gloating.

Justin: As hard as I may try, I cannot argue with your above statement. So, I fall back to the comment by tir that a half loaf is better than none.

There are some interesting points in time in this write-up but I don't know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Very good post , thanks and we want a lot more! Added to FeedBurner as well
