New York Gov. David Paterson will end re-election campaign

Embattled New York Governor David Paterson (D) will end his election campaign to keep his seat, according to NBC4, the Daily News and the Post. The announcement is expected to happen later today.

The development comes less than 48 hours after The New York Times revealed in a bombshell story that the Administration and the Governor personally intervened in the domestic violence case of one of Paterson's closest aides and advisors. The governor's top public safety aide resigned after the report. Calls for Paterson to resign are snowballing and the Daily News is running a front-page editorial today headlined "TIME TO GO".

Paterson is expected to end his faltering re-election bid and endorse popular Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, whom state and national Democrats are confident can keep the governor's office in the blue column.
