My father had a name for guys like John Mayer. Decorum prevents me from repeating his more colorful language, but it is something along the lines of "stupid butt White boys."
Now my father was being just a tad bigoted by mashing up race and stupidity together because heaven knows White people don't have a monopoly on stupidity. I hope...I really truly and sincerely hope John Mayer was drunk and kidding in his recent interview with Playboy.
Because if he's sober and serious, he's got a beatdown of Michael Richards proportions coming his way.
MAYER: Someone asked me the other day, "What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?"And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, "I can't really have a hood pass. I've never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, 'We're full.'"
PLAYBOY: It is true; a lot of rappers love you. You recorded with Common and Kanye West, played live with Jay-Z.
MAYER: What is being black? It's making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that's seen as a struggle and making it work for you, or you'll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude's.
PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?
MAYER: I don't think I open myself to it. My d*** is sort of like a white supremacist. I've got a Benetton heart and a f***** David Duke c***. I'm going to start dating separately from my d***.
PLAYBOY: Let's put some names out there. Let's get specific.
MAYER: I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And Kerry Washington. She's superhot, and she's also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl. Just all of a sudden she'd be like, "Yeah, I sucked his d***. Whatever."
I don't care even a little bit who John Mayer has sex with. That's just indicative of the lousy taste Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson have in men if they allowed Mayer to get busy with them. I just can't stand these hipster White guys who think because they have a little juice with Black people that gives them a free pass to say whatever ignorant, racist, sexist and stupid thing that comes out their mouth.
John Mayer says his penis is like David Duke? Seriously, guy. When parts of your body remind you of a Klansman get thee into therapy--STAT! Avoiding all chemical stimulants might be a smart move to make as well.
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Mayer proclaimed his love for masturbation. Apparently, for Playboy he decided to up the ante with crude racist and sexist observations.
Mayer took to his Twitter account to tweet an apology.
"Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged."
"And while I'm using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it's time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews...It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it's gotten out of hand and I've created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don't have the stomach for it. Again, because I don't want anyone to think I'm equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again."
I notice Mr. Mayer didn't apologize to Miss Simpson and Miss Aniston for putting their business out in the street or suggesting Kerry Washington provide him with oral favors.
Mayer is just another in a long line of minimally talented, maximum egotistical rock "stars" who have parlayed their 15 minutes of fame into ungodly amounts of money and women.
One moment he's bragging about how Black folks love him (nobody asked me) and how he's got a hood pass---sorry--"nigger pass", then the next he's turning up his nose at the thought of having sex with a Black woman. Then he completes the cycle of confusion by slobbering over Holly Robinson Peete and Kerry Washington.
Here's a man who not only doesn't know how little he knows about Black people, he doesn't even know what he likes and dislikes.
Being a dope who won't shut up about his sexual conquests is one thing. Being a sorry, lame rock n' roller is another. But for John Mayer, a guy who's as white as a jar of Miracle Whip to say he wants to be a "blues guitar player" offends me on a fundamental level. His adolescent and immature frat-boy thoughts about women indicates he's got serious growing up to do.
John Mayer the blues guitar player? More like John Mayer the sexist, racist dope.
Black folks have GOT to tighten up the requirements for a "hood" pass. If you can't name at least five past or present members of The Temptations you're disqualified.
Hood pass: REVOKED.

Wow -- and to think I used to like John Mayer -- of course I didn't know anything about him other than his music.
After these comments I want to know where is the black rapp community speaking out on this? That statement about his David Duke d%#k is equivalent to saying, "Yes of course I like black people, I have black friends, but I certainly wouldn't want my daughter to bring one home.
I can't even cut JM any need to grow-up slack. He's already a grown a$$ man in his 30's.
I'm waiting to hear from the black rappers who have worked with Mayer according to this article (Jay-Z, Common, Kayne) -- where y'all at?
Mayer obviously does not have the mental, emotional, intellectual or physical heft to command the respect or attention of even the simplest black woman. What a thinks he's too cool a-hole.

Did you read Mayer's PB interview?
You're talking apples and oranges in trying to compare black male interracial relationships with the controversy surrounding JM.
Mayer's said he "not open" to dating black women because he has "white supremacist David Duke c#@k." Eliminating an entire race of people from dating pool on the grounds that you're a "white supremacist" when it comes to dating and sex is whole different kettle of fish than being a black man dating or married to a white women or vice versa for black women who are married to or dating white men.
The issue with Mayer is not his dating preferences. The issue is the racist attitude that apparently informs his dating pattern. And trust me -- if JM thought he half a chance to get with any one of the millions of beautiful black women who grace the planet -- he'd be on it like white on rice. From what I've read about him since this controversy arose he strikes me as a terribly insecure person with the emotional maturity of a 13 year old.
But to your point -- I don't think we can say Reggie, Lamar, OJ, Quincy, Lionel or Michael are with white women because they are white supremacists or even that they are not open to dating black women. Lionel Richie and OJ Simpson were at one time married to black women. I am in no way trying to defend these men being with white women I'm simply saying that comparing it to the John Mayer situation is not appropos.
