Tiger Woods taking 'indefinite' leave from golf

After two weeks of unwanted media attention, Tiger Woods announced today that he will be leaving golf indefinitely to focus on healing the wounds caused by the disclosure of his extramarital affairs.

"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children," Woods said. "I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try."

The statement, posted on Woods's web site, continued:

"I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period."

I'm beginning to wonder who actually wears the pants in Tiger's family. At first, I was laughing just as hard as everyone else, but now I'm starting to see Tiger as a trapped victim. Nobody demands you to give up the essence of your soul or your unique gift for love. Tiger is now trapped just like a woman in a bad relationship. Tiger's cheating could have been a cry for help? Put a skirt on Tiger and we'd all be crying out for him? He'd be Rihanna?

Look.... The industry needs Tiger not the other way around. They don't get it. Tiger is a brand. When Tiger had surgery on his knee and was out of the game for 8 months television viewership for golf dropped by 50%. Who needs who here! As far as I'm concerned he should hurry up and get a divorce and continue to beat up guts from all the hoes who want to get famous for getting in the doggy style position for tiger and keep the game going

It gets funnier with each tawdry, lurid press release about Woods, its going to be a hard road to come back from when you have as many jump offs as he has had, and, I hope his old lady gets tested, some of those women are/were just plain nasty looking. The only ones who get any sympathy from me are those kids, but, with all his money, they will be fine.

I'm listening to the comments in this section and I shocked by the defeaning silence. Maybe the emotion just isn't here because Tiger hasn't slept with anything close to a woman of color. I just thank God he hasn't tapped into the strong gay community in here either. If Tiger was black or gay, then this community would be talking up a storm. Silence tells me something. We have no clue about what Tiger is going through. You don't give up what makes you special for a love that may or may not be. If a girl grabs you by the balls, there's nothing to negotiate until she lets go. Tiger would agree to anything now. He needs our help.

I could care less about Tiger and His Wife's problems, because they are just that him and his wife's problems.. We in this Country Love to be in someone Else's Marital Situation. Because you know we value the sanctity of Marriage institution(tiger, Madonna, Gov Sanford,Sen Craig, ETC.) But Hey you know Homosexuals get the Opportunity you know they destroy the Great Institution that is MARRIAGE!! ( what hypocrites)

I hope he takes this time to solve his very real marital problems. I couldn't care less that his wife is white--he chose her. The situation would have been every bit as bad if she and the other women had been black. He was willing to risk contracting a disease that he could have passed on to his wife, his career, his relationship with his children,and the marriage itself. And for what? A few fleeting moments of sexual pleasure. On other forums, I have read some hateful and ignorant generalizations about how both blacks and whites would allegedly behave under these circumstances. People have made some sweeping, negative generalizations about members of both races, which is not helpful at all in understanding the situation. One thing is certain, though. This incident shows the absolute fallacy of placing any human being on an unrealistic pedestal. Sooner or later, in one way or another, those who do that are inevitably disappointed by their idols.
