Secret Service under fire after reality show couple crashes exclusive State Dinner
Staff Reporter | Posted November 27, 2009 9:10 AMA spokesperson for Bravo says the couple who crashed a White House state dinner this week were being filmed that day by a camera crew connected with a reality television program, the Associated Press reported.
Tareq and Michaele Salahi, described as Washington area socialites and as publicity-hungry aspring reality stars, were caught after they posted pictures of their exploits on their Facebook page.
But questions are being raised about the Secret Service's failure to screen guests properly and many are wondering how two people were able to crash the party at the most exclusive event in Washington at the city's most exclusive residence.
Representative Peter King, the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, has called for a congressional investigation into the incident. Security around President Obama has been tight for some time, as threats have reportedly risen compared to previous presidents. And many worry about the safety of America's first black president.
But the Obamas were not in danger, according to the authorities. The Salahis went "through magnetometers and the other levels of security that the other guests went through," Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan told the press. "No one was under any risk or threat," he told the Washington Post.
