Van Jones: The right-wing's newest target

Glenn Beck was crying today on his radio program. He was begging anyone with an ounce of patriotism to "act" and "get involved" for their country. The Communist, he said, have infiltrated our borders and they are going to eat our women and children. Well, he didn't go quite that far....or, wait, maybe he did.

This man is absolutely certifiable. And you know what's even crazier? One in every one hundred A-merry-cans have been watching this fruit cake every night on Television Rwanda (AKA FOX News) Beck has become the cynosure for the anti black anti Obama sentiment in this country. The thing is, I still can't figure out if he is serious or not. I heard him on the radio today and he sure sounded serious. (The man was crying for crying out loud!) On and on he went about Van Jones, a "devout Communist" (or so says Beck) who has declared his allegiance to Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. "He is the founder of a communist group who denounced America after 911" he said, and then he released an explosive audio tape (his words) of Jones passionately speaking about taking back America from those people. " Who does that sound like?" He kept saying. "Does one Jeremiah Wright come to mind when you hear Jones?"

Now folks, I have to tell you, if this is the same Van Jones that I know, nothing could be farther from the truth. But I am sure Beck and his congregation will not let the facts get in the way of their fantasy. Quotes like the following have them all damp around the crotch area:

"We upheld the Marxist critique of capitalist exploitation. We agree with Lenin's analysis of the state and the party. And we found inspiration and guidance in the insurgent revolutionary strategies developed by third world revolutionaries like Mao Tse-Tung and Amilcar Cabral."

Yeah....OK....and?

"We cannot let these people get away with this", he kept saying. "We owe it to our children and our grandchildren to fight for the country we believe in." Wow! And you know what's scary about this? Somewhere in middle A-merry-ca there is another Timothy McVeigh listening to this shit and being inspired to plot his next assault on all those who are Un-American.

This, of course, is all bullshit. I wonder if it ever occurred to Mr. Beck and his wingnut friends that the Tiger Woods president with the Muslim sounding name was democratically elected by the people of these divided states? I mean I don't know about you folks reading this, but that doesn't seem too much like communism to me.

But I get the strategy: Attach Jones to Obama, find another black bogeyman, and scare the heck out of middle A-merry-ca. Right now Van Jones is the flavor of the month. Beck will find more. - I guarantee you that they will all look the same.

What's sad about all this is that there are perfectly legitimate things that Beck and those of his ilk could be debating with Obama. Health care, the war, immigration, and a slew of other programs and policies that have been implemented since he took office. Instead, we are left with this: Propaganda, fear mongering, and lies. All the while Beck's ratings continue to go through the roof. And why? Because he is telling some of our fellow A-merry-cans just what they want to hear.

I saw Van Jones at Morgan State University speaking about the new green economy and the movement and hopes toward a greener America. What some of these fear mongering idiots don't understand is that if we don't change the way we treat the environment and use energy there may not be an America to speak of.

When Van Jones graduated law school, Jones gave up plans to take a job in Washington, D.C., and moved to San Francisco instead. He got involved with Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM), a group explicitly committed to revolutionary Marxist politics whose points of unity were revolutionary democracy, revolutionary feminism, revolutionary internationalism, the central role of the working class, urban Marxism, and Third World Communism. The debate is not about white against black. It is interesting how racist you are to bring that up. This is purely about the message. And you cannot deny that Van Jones' message is not promoting the constitution or capitalism. He's message in his speeches are that of a Fascist nature and fortunately this Country still has enough freedom that a person can speak out against ideas that they do not agree with, just as you have the right to speak in defense of Van and fascism. The funny thing is that if all the things that Van is talking about happen you will lose that freedom to be an individual, and talk against things that you are against, because they believe in a collective state that can only speak in favor of their ideas, if you disagree, then you are a threat.

Why the Hell does this always have to be portrayed as being about Race to disagree with This Administration and This Congress? This is not about Republicans and Democrats because both have damaged this country irreparably. The Author tells us to focus on the issues of Health Care, etc. But what he's forgetting is that this adminsitration is trying to force these bills through without anyone reading or debating the damn things!!!! The people didn't want that God forsaken stimulus package that has handcuffed all of us and our children with insurmountable debt and yet it passed. So let me ask the author this, Why is it racist to ask the elected people to do their damn jobs?!!!! Van Jones has claimed to be a communist, I've never heard him denounce it. Why is it racist to question someone of this train of thought to be involved with running this country... my country?!!! And he is not the only one of the presidential advisers with a disturbing history. Clearly the wrong people are at the helm. That sir is not racist and if you have your own agenda to push through then have the decency to at least state it in your article. For every Steve Jobs worth $3 billion dollars, there are thousands who have jobs, and millions who use iPods. Charles, what would you propose then? We don't live in a utopia. Goods and services don't appear out of thin air. At least capitalism allows individuals to keep the fruits of their labor. Socialism forces individuals to work for others --if anything, socialism is the modern day equivalent of slavery. Finally a real debate. Of course capitialism is great. I think anybody in American who works hard will be able to do great things in their life. Yes, i am a capitialist. But America will never be a socialist country by its very constitution. Besides, SS, medicare, FDIC, are all socialist programs. America is a blend of ideas. Funny, people who cry socialism and say they want big government out of thier lives, what state ruled americas. They want the state decide individually, and that's socialism. Tell us who "selected" Oprah Winfrey, Ted Turner, Sam Walton, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, Michael Bloomberg, Robert Johnson, John Johnson, Michael Dell, Chris Gardner, etc etc? Or what about folks who have parlayed their athletic or musical talent into even greater business fortunes like Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Jay-Z, Usher, or 50 Cent? Volumes can be written profiling the folks, of just recent American history, who came from modest means and built fortunes for themselves and wealth for countless others. So your post was just plain dumb and you had the nerve to post it three times. BTW - After you finish finding out who "selected" all of those people, see if you can find just 1 example of a person like them coming out of socialist Venezuela in the last decade whose name isn't Hugo Chavez.

I could buy the argument about social programs accept for one tiny misconception that isn't played out in the media or anywhere else. These programs are not funded with enough money to bankrupt anything and it is a known fact that many whites benefit from these programs in larger numbers than other minority groups. Big business has there own form of social programs and government funding that almost caused the bankruptcy of this country. As much as I love this site, I am extremely disappointed at the inaccurate information that is allowed to flow daily from comments that are designed to distort facts to benefit the conservative trolls that visit here. All of this now regarding Mr. Green is a moot point because Van Jones has resigned from the position according to the New York Times. Democrats are caving in to all of this nonsense. I thought the security organizations cleared candidates before they are appointed to any position in government.

It was in fact, the bank bailouts, during the last months of the Bush administration, and the GM bailout, during the early months of the Obama administration, that led me to become a staunch conservative. But corporate bailouts don't justify citizen handouts. They're both ruinous to our civil society, and both corrode the foundation of our free market. When businesses succeed or fail by whether or not they get a government bailout, and not by the goods or services they provide for customers, then you don't have a free market, and you have corny capitalism.

Are you talking about the majority of us who have shelter overhead, food on the table, running water, plumbing fixtures, clothes on our backs, entertainment such as sports, music, movies, and leisure time to use a computer to post comments on this website? Charles, correct me if I'm wrong, but you strike me as a pessimist. Life isn't a utopia, and we don't choose the circumstances that we are born into, but we have to make the best of what we have. Capitalism, more than any other economic system, allows that. Capitalism absolutely created the standard of living we in America enjoy. I'd like to examples proving otherwise. As far as Wal-Mart is concerned, the only reason they are successful is because customers are willing to purchase what they offer. It's mutual exchange. If you want to shop at a mom-and-pop, fine; but unless the mom-and-pop offers more convenience or a better price, you'll find me shopping at Wal-Mart.

Charles, also, capitalism acknowledges scarce resources and human imperfections (hence Adam Smith's invisible hand is motivated by self interest). From your comments, I gather that you wistfully wish for a perfect world, a Utopia. Hate to break it to you friend, but this world isn't perfect, and we have to make do with what God has given. Therein lies the magnificence of capitalism: it allows each to choose for himself (within the confines of mortality) what he will with his time, labor, and property.

Charles, I understand your 3 postings perfectly. It is you who doesn't understand capitalism or appreciate the good fortune you have by living here instead of Venezuela. Who writes Oprah's check? Who writes the check of millionaire athletes and entertainers? Ultimately - we do by patronizing their products! No the masses will not all be uber-rich like the folks I named, but the masses aren't destitute either. Most of the folks in this country fall in the middle economically. And the middle class of the US enjoys a living standard unmatched the world over. Furthermore, we dont have a caste system so no one is stuck in either class. You rise or fall based primarily on your own ability and behavior. It wasn't always this way for black and brown people - but it is now. Yours and Van Jones' way would eliminate upward mobility for EVERYBODY.

I for one think that this resignation should never have taken place. He shouldn't have been there to start with. How can a man as smart as Obama thinks he is have ever appointed such a radical in the first place.
