Hillary Clinton: 'My husband is not Secretary of State, I am'

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton showed a flash of anger on Monday during an appearance at an event in the midst of her week-long Africa tour. Speaking at a press conference in Kinshasa, Congo, Secretary Clinton showed her temper when a member of the audience appeared to ask for her husband's opinion about World Bank interference with Chinese contracts in Congo.

"Wait, you want me to tell you what my husband thinks?" Clinton asked. "My husband is not the Secretary of State, I am," Clinton said with a neck roll.

She continued: "If you ask my opinion, I will tell you my opinion. I am not going to be chanelling my husband." And with that, she sat back in her chair and turned away from the questioner.

It turned out it was all a mistake. The man in the audience was actually asking about President Obama's opinion, but the translator misquoted him. Clinton and the questioner later shook hands after the press conference.

GOOD FOR HILIARY FOR MAKING IT VERY CLEAR THAT SHE IS THE PERSON CALLING THE SHOTS AND NOT HER HUSBAND. During the presidential race, I didn't vote for Hilary Clinton because of this very scenario. She will always have the "shadow of Bill Clinton" to either boost or to stifle her career. I thought Hilary and President Obama ran on similar platforms and my choice was to get someone new in the white house. So yes she need to continually make it clear that she is the one running the show and not her husband.

The media got this story all wrong. This was an American woman speaking up for the right of women to hold and express their own opinions, in a now (sad to say) completely paternalistic environment. We must remember that Mother Africa was originally a maternalistic society. Linage etc was expressed thru the Mother, not the Father. The Secretary of State correctly checked a patronizing, paternalistic, fool to send a message: As the Father of a Black Princess; I fully endorse not only her commentary, but the force of her response.

Sounds like the rantings of an insecure woman and does little to disavow the public of the idea that women are emotional and dramatic. Her response, even though the translator botched it, was snarky and unecessary and doesn't help women at all unless the message is, "because I am a woman, you can't ask me about my larger than life husband." WTF?

Midwestguy, I truly believe that Bill Clinton would not have been able to make most of the wise decisions that he made if it were not for Hillary lying in his bed. Kudos to Hillary for being able to recognize sexism and for being bold enough to address it right on the spot. If a man had the same response as she, there would be no uproar about it...nor would he be called a "bitc*". He would just be a man. It's time to put this backward mindset to rest. Clearly, she is smarter than her husband who didn't have the right mind to get his willy sucked away from the white house. (smirk).

H. Smart, thanks for the response but unless you know their intimate ranglings, it will remain only your belief and until I see evidence to the contrary.

Asking a question about her husband, the former president, isn't sexism. She ran her entire campaign based on what they did while he was in office. Now she's her own woman when she hung (sometimes deservedly so) onto his coattails? Please.

If a man had responded in the same manner, I doubt that you would be invoking the term sexism. She's not a victim nor a heroine in this despite how others want her to be.

I agree with you on one thing, she is smart. Smart enough to stay married to a cheater and womanizer to further her career

You had to listen to what that young man said to Hillary, a woman, to KNOW how immature and silly you seem midwestguy. This is much bigger than Hillary and Bill. Pure hate of women and children as manifested in rampant rape of young girls.
