Steve McNair shot and killed
Staff Reporter | Posted July 5, 2009 8:02 AMFormer NFL quarterback Steve McNair was found dead in his Nashville, Tennesse condominium on Saturday.
Police say McNair, a former NFL MVP and one of the few black quarterbacks in the league at the time, was shot and killed along with a female victim who was also discovered. McNair's wife Michelle was not the woman killed, according to the Associated Press.
McNair, 36, played for the Tennesse Titans from 1995 to 2005. Titans owner Bud Adams released a statement that the team was "saddened and shocked to hear the news." The Titans Web site featured a full-width tribute to McNair.
"He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans," Adams said in his statement. "He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."
In the video below, an emotional Eddie George, a former NFL running back, cries as he remembers McNair.
