How Obama's soft touch helped to encourage protesters in Iran
Joni L. Reynolds | Posted June 22, 2009 2:00 PMIt is funny to see Sen. John McCain stand on the floor of the Senate and criticize President Obama regarding his handling of Iran.
Fox News had a guest filmmaker who said he found it really disgusting how the Republicans are using the Iranian protests to blast Obama. On the campaign trail, McCain was running around saying "Bomb bomb bomb Iran," but now he's so concerned about the Iranian protesters.
The guest went on to say that Obama has the best approach of any recent president by staying out of internal Iranian business. As soon as he started to further support Obama, Fox News was done with that conversation.
On CNN a guest made an excellent point. He said that it was Obama's non-antagonistic approach to Iran that has led to the division within the Iranian government ranks coming to light. He said that because past U.S administrations have been so heavy handed in dealing with Iran, all the various factions in power have been unified in their hatred of the US, even though they disagreed amongst themselves. But because Obama has reached out diplomatically, it has really caused the internal factions of the Iran power elite to disagree and start to seriously fraction.
The campaign of Obama seemingly has resonated throughout the world and it in fact gave the Iranian people the courage to demand change. His overall message of hope has emboldened the protesters. One can only wonder if the McCain/Palin ticket had been victorious would we have seen this kind of protest for change.
