Can anyone stop Kobe?
Staff Reporter | Posted June 8, 2009 9:18 AM
A few weeks ago we were gushing over LeBron James and the so-called "shot heard around the world." That seems like ancient history now. Unless Howard steps up as a force to be reckoned with, Bryant will go down as the dominant player of the series. (Again, it could all change if the Magic win the championship.) Of course there have been legendary matchups in the past. Beck cites Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. But, he notes, Michael Jordan also never had a comparable opponent. And that may be the company in which Kobe Bryant hopes to dwell.
If trends continue, it looks increasingly unlikely that Bryant will never find his chief competitor. Unless of course, the rival is himself.
