Every now and then there has to be a list created that tells the majority just a few things that black people do not like:
- Black people do not like to be compared to apes, gorillas or chimps under any circumstances.
- Black people in the workplace do not like to be asked a question then hear you ask the same question to a white person for validation.
- Black people do not like to be told they are so articulate as if it is such a rarity to hear a black person speak correctly.
- Black people do not like being asked if they are wearing g a "doo rag" when they are simply wearing a decorative scarf on their head.
- Black people do not like being asked to perform a task that falls way outside of their job description. (i.e. I know an Ivy League graduate that was working as an account executive at a family-owned business, and he was asked to be a security guard at their child's graduation simply because he was big and black.)
- Black people don't like to be asked what's wrong simply because they are not smiling all day long.
- Black people do not like it when a waiter treats them differently at a restaurant simply because they believe they will not receive a proper tip.
- Black people don't like being asked for additional identification when using a charge card, when they have witnessed the white person only presenting their card.
- Black people don't like being followed in the store under the guise of helpfulness. Nor do they want to be completely ignored when they are looking to be served.
- Black people hate it when people say get over slavery. No one ever asks the Jews to get over the Holocaust.
- White people are seemingly fascinated with our hair. I don't know if hair questions bug us because we're sensitive about it or because they are ignorant about it. A friend of mine is wearing her hair natural now and she gets lots of "people" either asking if they can touch it or not asking at all and simply touching it. Because it's natural, she can flat iron and wear it straight sometimes and this really throws them off. She works where she has to show a badge if the person at the desk does not know you and whenever she changes her hair, they ask for ID. She ignores them now and keeps walking when they ask.
- Black people don't like when white people act like they don't see you when they pass them in the hallway or on the street when they have spent a considerable amount of time with them in meetings and other exchanges in the workplace.
- Black people don't like when white people try acting "down" with "urban" phrases and anecdotes during business meetings in which there are people of color present.
- Black people hate it when white women commit crimes and say a black man did it. (i.e. Susan Smith and Bonnie Sweeten)
- Black people hate that black children go missing for years and get little or no media attention, but when a cute little white child is missing the media can not show that child enough. (i.e. the Caylee Anthony case)
- Black people hate to see other black people appear on the Maury Povich show. It is so disingenuous to see Povich feign concern when one of his guest baby mamas finds out the person she accused is not the father. Povich is making a fortun showcasing these damaged lives and he is laughing all the way to the bank.
Some people will read this list and say why don't they stop whining. Everyone has things that bug them, but when some of the same things happen to you over and over again you can't simply just get over them.Sometimes you need to just put it out there and say it. What prompted this post was the GOP activist that compared the first lady to an escaped ape and then saying he was joking. It is no joke it is racism and it will not stop by simply be ignored.

Thanks, Joni. I'd also like to read a list on what most black gay people do not like.

Why would Klee Shay not be black? Because s/he does not like black lists? That's ridiculous.

Personally, I find that what works best is to humour or ignore completely any subtle racist who gives me a second best service or thinks I am a criminal or a rapist. Basically, do not ever look in the direction, or speak or smile in the company of a racist work colleague who ignores you in the street. Dont be agitated, just be indifferent. What all racists fear the most is racism against them, and to be un-noticeable. Sinc eit's all paranoia it makes white racists think that maybe white slavery is coming soon.

Free people "benefit" and suffer because of it.
We need blacks and whites and everybody with their lists working it out at the table daily.
