41 Years Ago Today: Dr. King Assassinated

I have been blessed been able to meet people like Rosa Parks, Corretta King amd so many of Dr. King's former staff and associates that worked directly with him during the Civil Right Movement. And I am humbled that many of these elder leaders had called me "Little Hosea" saying my leadership style reminded them of the late Civil Rights leader Hosea Williams. But after 41 years, its disturbing that many of the urban poor and communities that Dr. King sought to lift up are just as poor and distressed as they were 41 years ago. We should be embarrassed that so many of the least of God's people are suffering today when you look at the collective wealth of spending power of the Black community and the talent that we have. 41 years after Dr. King's death, far too many of the BEST of us don't give a damn about the REST of us !! And now here we are so caught up in the symbolism of Barack Obama being President, that we are missing the substance of the poor getting poorer with each day of his Presidency. And in Obama's hometown of Chicago, its become The Murder Capital Of The World while the crime intervention and prevention programs are being cut in the very areas where its increasing. And right in Chicago's Roseland community where Obama got his first job as a community organizer, is just as distressed as it was when he worked there over 20 years ago. 41 years after Dr. King's death, we focus on our achievements and not the State of Emergency that still face our poor grassroots communities.
