'Tent cities' go up as jobs become scarce

I saw this report on NBC nightly news and even though I am relatively safe in my job (tractor-trailer driver) not once do I take it for granted that could not happen to me. In NYC it has been reported that it now takes $125k annually to qualify for middle-class. I do wonder why the press does not connect the foolish rants of Al Sharpton back in the 1980's and 90's (though now I have sent donations to his organization) to Rush (the windbag) Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. They are trying to rally the troops (thier white brethren) and turn this economic mess we are in into a struggle to save what they know is dead on arrival, the GOP. We are in a depression and as bad as times are this is also the time to keep tabs on these people who are clearly taking advantage of the misery of others.

I can't believe this is happening here in the U.S.! This doesn't make any sense at all. There is no place to run to...unless you have a passport and want to make South America the next great country. I am afraid. Very afraid.

This is amazing, but not that shocking, when you have had the last 8 years of unregulated banking and tax cuts galore, this is what happens.

If you think this is bad, wait 'til the entire nation gets hit with the mega tax burden it's going to take to pay for the bailout. As bad as this is, what should have the hair standing straight up on the backs of all our necks is the government takeover of the banking and finance industry. Can you say, "SOCIALIST NATION"?

In regard to tent cities now going up. At least these are better than sleeping under cardboard. At least we finally are LETTING these folk stay in them for shelter. They have no where else to go. Regardless of who is to blame, the problems is to begin HOPING for the future. So if each of us do our best, and work for CHANGES in attitude and actions perhaps we can begin to see a better day ahead. At least give the President a chance to TRY. Roosevelt had his problems too when he tried to implement his programs. Statesmanship is the art of compromise someone wisely said many years ago. Let us see, hope and pray, and do what we can. I grew up in Sacramento CA. I stayed there for 21 years. I now live in North Texas. Im sadden to learn the economic explosion has had that much fallout there. This thing is truley radio-active. Thanks George W Bush, and the Republican right. You've really prooven how much you love your country. Like the Mcain campaign slogan "Country First". And I geuss that means it's citizens last. What a mess. At least Sacramento is in the hands of a new mayor, who seems to really have a heart for the people maybe he can do some things to at stop the bleeding. We"ll see???? Hey Buddy, Can you spare a dime?

It's amazing to me that the people surrounding these tent cities can only think to complain about zoning laws instead of helping their fellow humans. It shows up the greed and vanity of this nation as a people that we don't want to deal life in the break down lane. It used to be that we would help people with their flat tire. Now, we just tell them where they can go, but that they can't stay here. Why can't we just all get along? Why can't we all just love one another? Is it really that hard folks?
