Thanksgiving with the Obamas
Staff Reporter | Posted November 26, 2008 8:15 PM
The Obama family may be ushering in new traditions for Thanksgiving, starting with handing out food at a local food bank in Chicago.
The Obama family, including Michelle, Malia and Sasha, handed out chicken, potatoes, bread and other food at St. Columbanus Church at 71st and Calumet Drive in Chicago's predominantly black south side, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The paper said this was the fourth year in a row Obama has handed out food at a food bank before Thanksgiving.
The number of people in line swelled at the facility this year, the Sun-Times reported. About 600 families got food this year, up from 270 families last year.
Obama cited the increase numbers of people as an indication of the economic hardship facing the country. "I think it gives a sense -- times are tough," he said, according to ABC News. "And I think that on Thanksgiving, it's important for us to remember people in need, but it's important not just during Thanksgiving."
After working at the food bank, the soon-to-be first family traveled across the street for an unplanned visit to a nearby elementary school and the kids erupted in excitement.
The family plans to enjoy Thanksgiving at home in Chicago.

Anonymous, easy solution for you. Don't post to this site if you are so bothered by what it does not include. Would you frequent a restaurant that gave you a sandwich without the fixings? More than likely not. Same logic applies here. Stop posting.

He also wants people of divergent views and outlooks so that decisions will be of a higher quality than if he selected people of only one viewpoint. It's about time someone did that.
Obviously he is only the president ELECT and has not yet had an opportunity to implement changes in direction. However, I am very encouraged by what he has done so far. Give him a chance before attacking him!! And, even when he becomes president, the problems we have will not be easy to solve. Probably solving many of the problems will require more than 8 years, so considerable patience is in order.
