OBAMA WINS
Staff Reporter | Posted November 4, 2008 11:55 PM
The most historic election in recent American history has come to an end. Barack Obama will become the 44th president of the United States and the first African American to hold the office.
The race was called by the major networks at 11 p.m. Eastern time when polls closed in California. Obama swept the west coast, picked up Virginia and Florida, and loosened the grip of the Republican stranglehold on the south.
Senator Obama had 207 electoral votes shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, after carrying Ohio, New Mexico and Iowa, three states that had voted for George Bush in 2004. By 11 p.m., when polls closed on the west coast, Obama had enough states to carry the electoral college and win the election.
No Republican has ever won the White House without winning Ohio, and tonight John McCain will join the ranks of those who failed.

The national result show that the race was close. So to get so many votes from the electoral collage is testimony of a good strategy and hard work.
And to those who wondered whether Obama was going to forget about minorities - I doubt that McCain would have even mentioned the word gay in his celebration speech.2008-11-05 06:31:20
