O.J. Simpson guilty of all 12 counts in robbery case
Staff Reporter | Posted October 4, 2008 12:58 PMA jury in Las Vegas has found O.J. Simpson guilty of all 12 charges against him in a high-profile armed robbery and kidnapping case.
Simpson, a former football star turned actor, was accused of a gunpoint robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room last year.
As the verdict was read in the courtroom, Simpson turned his body and his face away after the first guilty verdict was announced. Eleven more guilty verdicts were read and Simpson and his co-defendant Clarence Stewart were immediately taken into custody. The 61-year-old Simpson now faces a prison sentence of 15 years to life. Sentencing will take place December 5.
The outcome was different from Simpson's much publicized 1995 murder trial, billed as "the trial of the century." Simpson was acquitted on all charges in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in that case.
After the verdict Friday night, Simpson's attorney, Yale Galanter, vowed to appeal the decision and cited an unfair jury selection as a problem. The all-white jury that convicted Simpson included nine women and three men. They deliberated more than 13 hours before reaching their verdict.
