Obama airs 30 minute prime time ad
Staff Reporter | Posted October 29, 2008 9:43 PM
Senator Barack Obama spoke to the nation Wednesday night in a 30 minute prime time broadcast that featured real life stories of American families, testimonials from public figures, personal biography, policy positions and a three minute live speech from Florida at the end.
"For the past 20 months, I've traveled the length of this country, and Michelle and I have met so many Americans who are looking for real and lasting change that makes a difference in their lives," Obama said.
The ad featured Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill and other public figures. It also featured perspectives from several families, including a black family, an Hispanic family and a white family. Obama narrated the stories of the families.
In between the personal stories, the camera returned to the office setting where Obama described his policy positions on the economy, health care, energy and national security. The ad finished with a live telecast from Florida.
"America, the time for change has come," Obama said at the beginning of his live 3-minute remarks from Ft. Lauderdale at the end of the pre-taped infomercial. "In six days, we can choose hope over fear and unity over division, the promise of change over the power of the status quo," he said.
The Democratic presidential candidate finished his remarks with an appeal for Americans to help out his campaign. "If you'll stand with me and fight by my side and cast your ballot for me," Obama said, "then I promise you we will not just win Florida, we will win this election. And together we will change this country and change the world."
The 27 minute ad (shown below) that preceded the live broadcast was produced by Davis Guggenheim, executive producer of the Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" featuring former Vice President Al Gore. It aired live on CBS, NBC, Fox, MSNBC, BET, TV One and Univision. ABC and CNN chose not to air the ad.

Maybe you were one of the emotional gays who had such a problem with Obama choosing the ex-gay (as if there's a such thing) guy for his gospel tour. Still don't like him? Fine, vote for Palin who wants to pass a constitutional amendment to ban all gay marriages.
