Campaigns release dueling attack ads
Staff Reporter | Posted October 29, 2008 12:03 PM
With just six days to go until the presidential election, both Barack Obama and John McCain are on the attack against their opponents.
Ironically, both campaigns have turned to the question of experience, but in starkly different ways. The McCain team returns to an old argument that Obama is a celebrity who is not ready to lead. It's an argument that McCain used throughout the summer but many felt was undermined by his selection of his running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
Obama's new ad picks up where McCain's leaves off.
Obama's ad quotes McCain's own words indicating that he doesn't know much about the economy and that he may have to rely on his vice president for help. The Obama ad, which has no spoken words, ends by asking who McCain picked to be his vice presidential running mate and shows a photo of Sarah Palin.
It's the first time that the Obama campaign has directly attacked Governor Palin in a TV ad and it may indicate that the Democrats sense Palin has become a liability for the GOP ticket.
Meanwhile, the Illinois senator will take to the airwaves tonight with a special half hour prime time broadcast on 7 different television networks. John McCain has mocked Obama's expensive ad buy. "No one will delay the World Series with an infomercial when I'm president," McCain said Tuesday in Pennsylvania.
Following Obama's address, the Philadelphia Phillies are scheduled to play in the World Series tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays. The fifth game has been delayed twice by rain and it will be delayed briefly again tonight by Obama's address. The game features two teams from two swing states -- Pennsylvania and Florida.
