This is an important week for Hillary Clinton. This is her opportunity to speak to the nation and confirm her support for Barack Obama. What she can not do is let the media and John McCain use her candidacy as a wedge issue.
Monday on CNN they played a new McCain ad featuring a former Clinton delegate who is now voting for McCain. This idea that so many of the Clinton supporters are so angry that they would vote for McCain is being totally overblown. Sure there are some hardcore Clinton supporters who are not going to vote for Obama, but they are not the majority as the media would like for us to believe.
This other idea of McCain and the gang and their new found love for Clinton is utterly ridiculous. The Republicans hate Hillary Clinton and all she stands for. They hated Bill Clinton and for 8 years they investigated both he and Mrs. Clinton. So now when we hear them ask the question why not Hillary, and to hear them tout her qualifications one can only hope that America is not foolish enough to fall for this extraordinary attempt at deception.
So tonight when Hillary Clinton speaks I know she will thank all of her supporters, as she should, but I hope she will spend more time talking about Barack Obama and why he should be our next president. I hope she views this as an opportunity to help him close the deal with America. I hope she leaves no doubts in the minds of her supporters who she supports.
A vote for McCain affirms that everything is fine, and it does not say that America needs to change direction, and I hope that Hillary Clinton helps to make the case for Obama.
