Obama ad attacks McCain on energy policy
Staff Reporter | Posted August 4, 2008 11:00 AMBarack Obama's presidential campaign has unveiled a new television ad that attacks rival John McCain on energy policy and accuses McCain of being "in the pocket" of big oil companies.
"Every time you fill your tank, the oil companies fill their pockets," the narrator says. "Now Big Oil's filling John McCain's campaign with 2 million dollars in contributions. Because instead of taxing their windfall profits to help drivers, McCain wants to give them another 4 billion in tax breaks," the ad says.
The ad also tries to link Senator McCain to President Bush, who is unpopular in public opinion surveys. While a photo of McCain and Bush appears on the screen, the narrator says: "After one president in the pocket of big oil... We can't afford another."
The ad then goes on to tout Obama as a candidate who will support a windfall profits tax on oil companies "to give families a thousand dollar rebate" and claims that the Illinois senator will be "a president who'll stand up for you."
