Black Democratic voter registration swells in key states

Democrats are expanding on a key advantage among black voters in the South thanks to Barack Obama. More than 200,000 African Americans have registered as Democrats this year in the three states that track voter registration by race, according to published reports from state records.

The records -- from Florida, Louisiana and North Carolina -- showed that African American GOP registration has fallen in those states, as many black Republicans have switched sides to support Barack Obama.

Florida gained 81,512 black Democrats and lost 784 black Republicans; Louisiana gained 34,325 black Democrats and lost 907 black Republicans; North Carolina gained 92,356 black Democrats and lost 2,850 black Republicans, according to the Associated Press.
