Jesse Jackson apologizes to Barack Obama for "crude and hurtful" remarks
Staff Reporter | Posted July 9, 2008 4:55 PM
The Rev. Jesse Jackson has apologized to Senator Barack Obama for derogatory comments he made about the Democratic presidential candidate that were caught on tape.
Jackson reportedly made the remarks after finishing an interview with a Fox News correspondent, and said he didn't realize his remarks were captured by a "hot" microphone.
In an exclusive interview on CNN on Wednesday, Jackson said his comments about Obama were "crude and hurtful" and he immediately called the Obama campaign to apologize after he realized what he had done.
Jackson did not specify exactly what he said, and CNN said the remarks were so crude that they could not repeat them on television, but several blogs reported that Jackson criticized Obama for sermonizing to African Americans.
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who serves as a national co-chairman of Obama's presidential campaign, responded quickly to his father's remarks. "Reverend Jackson is my dad, and I'll always love him," the congressman said Wednesday evening in a statement. But he added: "I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself."
Jackson issued an apology "for any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused." Jackson said, "My support for Senator Obama's campaign is wide, deep, and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historic moment."
One blog, citing Fox News's Sean Hannity as a source, reported that Jackson slammed Obama for "talking down [to] black people on matters of faith." Hannity also suggested that Jackson said he wants to "rip Obama's nuts off" on the tape.
Appearing on CNN Wednesday afternoon with Don Lemon and Wolf Blitzer, Jackson said he was trying to explain that Obama was hurting his relationship with black voters by conducting "moral" lectures at African-American churches, CNN reported.
"My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility," Jackson said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.
The Obama campaign released its own statement in response to Jackson. "As someone who grew up without a father in the home, Senator Obama has spoken and written for many years about the issue of parental responsibility, including the importance of fathers participating in their children's lives," the statement said.
"He also discusses our responsibility as a society to provide jobs, justice, and opportunity for all. He will continue to speak out about our responsibilities to ourselves and each other, and he of course accepts Reverend Jackson's apology," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Has anyone notice that “The Old Black Guard” or as I called them, “Old school fools”, The likes of --Rev Al Sharpton, Bob Johnson, Jesse Jackson; New school fool, Tavis Smiley and other well known pimps, opps I mean preachers, know that their time in the lime light has passed. So, in a feeble attempt, to stay in the media, they make off cuff remarks because they are jealous of Obama’s status as the 1st Multi-Ethnic candidate of a major political party in the history of this country.
Yet, they forget that Obama is running for President of the United States; not for President of the Black United States- Tavis WTF: the nerve of Jesse Jackson to talk about morals. He had child outside of his marriage to a younger lady and is paying here over a million a year for child support. Jesse, Stop hatin’ on Barack O. You need to go sit your rusty butt down in a wheel chair somewhere and shut up

DISAPOINTED BUT NOT SURPRISED
If most of you noticed from the beginning Rev Jackson never was for Obama as far as that matters none of our Elder Statesmen (Congressmen, Congresswomen & and Civil Rights leaders) were never in the corner of Barack Obama. There seems to be a jealousy mentality going on here and it’s very embarrassing to our race PERIOD
I understand “loyalty” and all but the fact that hardly none of the U.S Congress (Blacks & Latino’s) stood behind him and now they are acting like they are forced to support him which is now showing me that the Democratic party is still by large “The Dixiecrats” and that is HORRIFYING to me. Rev Jackson needs to understand that the Father’s Day speech Obama gave was appropriate. Most Black men do step up to the plate and handle their business as Father’s and Husbands however there are many that don’t plain and simple and run around town and got babies everywhere and choose to take care of them rather than the seed they produced all of us see this everyday if you don’t want the “dirty laundry” to be aired, then DAMN IT Clean it up don’t push it under the table because it will only be pulled back out
As far as the apology on CNN Rev Jackson didn’t specify what he said. But the actual interview was on Fox News Channel and he said Obama balls should be cut for down talking black men and he was wrong! Obama did’nt say anything that wasn’t true and like Mama says “If the shoe fits wear, it and if it doesn’t throw it away” But like our resident idiot WHURLY PURL SAID: I am loving this! Obama's campaign is unraveling from the inside out. Boy howdy, talk about a collection of amateurs. Hey idiot I didn’t know that Jesse Jackson was a part of the Obama campaign he was always in the corner of The Clinton’s you know your licking the twot of Queen Mother Hillary…Enough of you Madame Troll
Our Elder Statesmen and Women has truly shown me that their bitterness trumps unity so I can say regardless of the outcome. I can’t see myself staying in the Democratic Party these people have truly shown me that Blacks are okay as long as they stay in the background of things and not dare try to take center stage and I feel this is not what Dr King, nor the people who fought with him for this very moment wanted. So look out Independents here I come. But destiny is on our side. Has Obama made mistakes…YES and will Obama continue to make them….YES and so will McCain as well. But we all know Republicans do not have our interest. And regardless I still say with PRIDE…..YES WE CAN!!!
Be not discouraged People we were never told the road would be easy. But we must continue to travel it if we plan to reach the top of the mountain…..So onward Soldiers keep marching we’re almost there!

Jackson should stand behind his words and Obama should reject Jackson's apology. Both boys are falling all over each other and themselves to kiss and make up, to play political patty-cake.
My American Indian tradition guiding this type of event is we say what we mean and mean what we say. We do not mince our words nor backpedal.
Jackson wants to render Obama a gelding, which is quite ironic because Obama is already a sissified gelding who is best suited to hang out with sway back mares put out to pasture. Jackson intends for Obama to be a gelding, then Jackson should stand up and announce, "I am to make you a gelding for these reasons," then cite his valid reasons for his gelding stance.
In return, Obama should stand up and declare, "You cannot render me a gelding because I am a virile Arabian stud for these reasons," then cite his valid reasons for being a stud.
"Oh Barack, my dear friend, I really did not mean what I said. Please forgive me."
"Quit your worrying, Jackson, I know you really did not mean what you said. I still love you."
What we don't witness is those long butcher knives held behind their backs, ready for bloody use.
When we American Indians disagree, we do so openly, truthfully and confront our issues face-to-face. We stand our ground with pride, and we back down when we learn we are wrong, with equal pride.
We Indians do not play this hypocritical kissy-face game currently being played by Jackson and Obama; their two-faced behavior is disgraceful. Those boys need to man-up.
