McCain admits he doesn't know how to use a computer

Oh Goodness!!! My birth mother, age 71 also, uses her computer regularly, sending me articles via email and does quite a bit with her PC; pays bills and regularly visits some of the same progressive news sites that I view. This is so sad. Well I do beleive that admission will undo his campaign.

I do not think McCain not knowing how to use a computer is such a bad thing. If he has no need for a computer, no point to wasting his time with one.

None in our family own cell phones nor do any of us have a clue how to use a cell phone. We have no need for a cell phone. We have a single landline at twenty bucks a month, hooked up to a half century old black rotary phone. We keep a thirty year old touch tone phone in a kitchen cabinet should we need this for a touch tone menu selection; just plug it in, good to go.

We save a lot of money by not falling into this trap of cell phones. Besides, people who shove a cell phone into their ears are slaves to those phones and certainly are Borgs.

McCain is blessed in a way. He does not suffer all the frustrations of a computer, constant crashing, viruses and he is not addicted to the web and none can accuse him of looking at online pornography. He enjoys freedom. Not such a bad deal.

Do you, the reader, have a cell phone shoved into your ear while reading this? If so, you are a cell phone slave; no privacy, no freedom, a Borg.

Purl Gurl - If you and your family don't like cell phones and computers, that's fine. But, anyone man who wants to lead the US in the 21st century should at a minimum know how to use a computer. We live in an age of technology and the President should be competent using technology. The fact that he's computer illiterate, demonstrates that he would have a difficult time adapting to the challenges of the 21st century both internationally and domestically. It's hard to believe that this is the best the repubs could come up with.

A lack of understanding of new technology has doomed past presidential candidates. Daddy Bush lost an election because he had no understanding of supermarket scanners, and Nixon lost to Kennedy because JFK had a better understanding of how to use the new technology of TV...Much of the technology we take for granted came about through Kennedy's commitment to the space race, and Clinton's policies helpled paved the way for the dot com boom that created Yahoo and Google. I can see this campaign commercial. It's 3 AM and the President's Blackberry is buzzing with a text message about a potential attack against the US and McCain turns to his wife and says "how to you work this thing?" With every aspect of American, and world society tied to the internet and computers, having a president who doesn't use one is having the head of a orchestra who doesn't read music. How do you save money by having a landline that charges per minute for long distance. For $50 a month I can talk to anyone anywhere in the world for as long as I want. I also can send and receive unlimited text and access the internet. I was on my way to the airport when I received a text message saying my flight was cancelled. I was able to use the handheld to make a reservation on another airline. If if didn't have the handheld; I wouldn't have been able to make the trip because by the time I got to the airport and found out my flight was cancelled, there wouldn't have been enough time to book another flight.

What's the big news? McCain admits that he's a dinosaur, doesn't understand computers, economics, or the Constitution. Shall we now have a vote for the candidate MOST qualified to lead the greatest nation on earth?

I don't know what the big deal is since many of his age group, the over 80's don't know how to use one, and, didn't he learn to read before lights were invented? But, then again, he also does not know anything about economics, which is far scarier.

A president who chooses not to use a computer or email has already been done. GWB was that president. One wonders whether it was because of ignorance in technology or more to keep hidden the memos and orders for things like illegal wiretapping, Pentagon propaganda and US Attorney politics. But if we are going to bring our nation to the fore in technology, we can't have senators or representatives or presidents who think that the internet is a "series of tubes" and who rely on others for their basic computer understanding. I'm not saying he needs to be on his computer every day, but he should be able to pick one out in a line up.

If he truly said, "a illiterate", then he IS an illiterate. Another illiterate buffoon. Please! Not 2 in a row!

Proud to be dumb. It's the American way, and the most important qualification to being president these days. Especially if they are morons who also happen to be born/married into millions. The American dream in action.

Um - it's just hard to relate to this guy. He also says he knows nothing about economics. He thinks we'll be at war in Iraq for 100 years and wants Dick Cheney in his cabinet. This is the future president of the greatest nation on earth? I thought we were done with dumb and mean.

McCain doesn't need a computer. He has Bush.

Everything is coming out about everyone now. We voters are in a scarey position. I personally don't care if he does or doesn't know how to use a computer. He will have a staff for that! When our first computer was purchased quite some time ago, we had to ask "how to turn it on". We didn't know! He can learn but there are more important things at stake right now than whether he can go on a computer. At least he was honest about it!

It would have been nice to hear McCain say he is willing to learn how to operate a computer. He doesn't know how to use a teleprompter either. I have to agree with Eric on this one. Having Dick Cheney in his cabinet did it for me, not to mention his 100 year war. This country needs fresh ideas, the infrastructure needs overhauled, jobs created, the middle and lower classes given a fighting chance in the economy. We need someone willing to change and take care of our own country for once.

obama doesn't know how to use a bowling ball. there's still young adults that don't know how to use computers. kid at work didn't know what copy/paste minimize/maximize was. :smashed: if i was president, i'd have people checking my inbox for me. the good stuff is mouth to mouth and encoded letters anyway. hustlers don't leave trails. obama just a long legged freak.
