Hi, I am not suprised at the way Michelle is treated. Like the author wrote she is unmistakable black, and for that she gets persecuted. black women are suppose to be at the bottom of the totem pole not the top as Michelle and so many of us are. I believe white supremacy ( the system and power that be) can clearly see that the strength of black folks is in our women!!!

The venom directed toward Michelle Obama has nothing to due with skin tone. Michelle was initially touted as a strong asset for Barack. She was said to be smart, educated and accomplished. Her skin tone has not changed since the campaign started. It was not until her perceived anti American statement, “for the first time in my adult life I am really proud of my country,” a statement which was initially jumped on and highlighted by, Cindy McCain, wife of John McCain, that venom first came her way. Michelle has continued to feed the angst by telling stories of how a little black girl growing up in America was without hope for a future until her husband’s campaign came along. All this ungratefulness, despair and contempt for America coming from a woman of privileged background and for whom America has provided it’s best, Princeton, Harvard, millionaire status, is just a bit to much for many. It is a legitimate question to ask if her husband shares some of her darker views for America and if he does then why on earth should he be elected president of the country he despises?. And even if he does not share her views, given her views, the question of what type first lady would Michelle make is relevant.

Michelle is a beautiful woman even if not in the Halle Berry, Beyonce' mold. The only reason that her beauty is not as readily apparent is simply because her husband is better looking. It says a whole lot about Barack that he chose a woman not only for her beauty but also for her mind. I would guess that Barack could have any trophy woman he wants on his arms. Far from being "sissfied" (as the rather confused PurlGurl puts it), it makes him a strong man. In his book, Dreams From My Father, he talks about the time an associate of his came into the office with colored contact lens and how it totally turned him off. He later took the associate to a play about women celebrating their bodies even with stretch marks and tribal scars. When I read that I just fell in love with him all over again. The idea that a man - especially one as gifted and beautiful as Obama, recognizes that women do not have to be the Hollywood glamor girl to be deemed beautiful is heart-warming.

Many are impressed Obama married a Black person that failed the "paper bag test". However the problem with the lighter Black women is they more times than not are not very good in the bed. They tend to think they can just lay there. Michelle has a serious ass, and darker women tend to curl your toes a whole lot more, no doubt she twisted out the light bright Obama. The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice is so true.

If Michelle is not pandering to whites, her husband certainly will not win the election. Rather sexist of you, Clay Cane, to assume Michelle is not smart enough to win every vote possible for her husband. Michelle knows she must connect with as many voters as possible, regardless of skin color. Clay, I don't think the problem is "Michelle Obama is unmistakably black." In fact, I am quite offended by that notion. The problem with Michelle Obama is that she is unpolished. Is your friend trying to say that black people are unpolished???? I love Barack and I really like Michelle; respect her, think she's intelligent and capable. That is why she get treated this way, similarly to Hillary in 1991, who is a white women. Lani Guinier, a professor of law at Harvard, who was nominated for Attorney General by Bill Clinton in the 90”s is a lighter skin complexion and has straighter hair than Halle Berry was beat up on because of her views and being a “strong black women” with an opinion. Skin complexion has nothing to do with it. Halle is a fragile woman, she cries and poses no threat; that’s the difference. Skin complexion issues are black people issues. Actually, more specifically a black gay man's fasination. Some you need to look in the mirror and learn how to love yourself as beautiful brown and black people.
