Obama says he's "outraged" by Jeremiah Wright
Staff Reporter | Posted April 29, 2008 2:55 PMSpeaking at a hastily called press conference, Obama said, "I have been a member of Trinity Church since 1992. I have known Rev. Wright for almost 20 years. The person I saw yesterday is not the person I met 20 years ago."
Obama was referring to Rev. Wright's controversial remarks made at the National Press Club in Washington.
"What particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing." The Illinois senator said that Wright was more concerned with "taking center stage" than helping his campaign.
"It was antithetical to our campaign, it was antithetical to what we're about," Obama said, adding that Wright's remarks were "appalling" and "completely opposed to what I stand for and where I want to take this country."

2. Obama gives a great speech basically telling people that while he doesn't agree with Rev Wright, he's still a friend and like an uncle to him and basically tells the press to lay off and it's time to move on.
3. Time passes and Wright comes out swinging hard this past weekend basically forgetting that Obama did a service to him by getting the media off of Wright's ass, and could perhaps ruining any chances Obama has to be president.
Remember that even though Obama has 90-95% of the black votes, he still needs the votes of the whites. He's a black man running for a traditionally and historically WASP political position, President of the USA. The Republicans and Hillary have enough sound bites thanks to Rev Wright to use against Obama and scare whites from voting for him.
Am I one of the few that think that Wright should've done Obama a favor and not go public until after Election Day? I was one of many who defended Wright and supported him for what he's done in the community regardless of what he had said in the past. And now I feel like I just got pimp-slapped by him and I'm not a Black Baptist, although my mom's side of the family is. I grew up as a Black Catholic in SC who had a Black-Italian American priest from Chicago that was a vocal as Wright but never used the pulpit to show his vocalness. He expressed his concerns in other ways that still managed to piss off the Charleston Dioese, but appealed to those he was helping. Clearly, Wright should do the same right now and just enjoy his retirement until Election Day then start preaching again.
