Former Newark Mayor convicted

"A federal jury today convicted the former longtime mayor of Newark, Sharpe James, of fraud for conspiring to sell city-owned properties to a former girlfriend, who quickly flipped them and earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits," reported the New York Times.

"A U.S. federal jury has convicted former Newark, N.J., Mayor Sharpe James and his ex-mistress of corruption stemming from the cut-rate sale of city land," reported the Wall Street Journal.

The Newark Star-Ledger wrote: "

A federal jury today convicted former Newark Mayor Sharpe James of fraud for conspiring to rig the sale of nine city lots to his mistress, who quickly resold them for hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit."

i lived in Newark for a bit and i have to say that while its no Trenton/Camden it is thoroughly as "bad as they say," in some places. Sharpe James fed off the misery and anguish of the Black folks of that town and i know the feds had been after him for a long time. they finally got him--good riddance. word on the street was that this conviction is just a small sampling of the stuff he did while in office. so sick of these good ole' skool brothas who got elected long ago, was supposed to 'do right' by Black folks and only did wrong. Kwame you're up next! then we can start cleaning up the CBC a little--FOX NEWS CHANNEL DEBATE?! what was that?!
