Did Lou Dobbs call Condoleezza Rice a cotton picker?

Gawd I was wondering if anyone had heard that ... lol That M. Dobbs is one nasty man. His attacks on Senator Obama are personal and you hear that every time he mentions his name. It is pathetic to see that today's journalistic standards has gone so far down the tube that people like Mr. Dobbs have to pretend to be so mad that just say anything no matter how much insensitive to other people. Just for a moment imagine...Mr. Dobbs have you believe that "Corporations have declared a war against middle class". I don't disagree with that but don't you think...it is a little absurd to be coming from a person who himself work for the mother of all corporations...TIME WARNER. Don't you think there is a conflict of interest when the person who say's that he is "friend" of the middle class but he never disclosed his salary or made his tax returns public...did he? So one should wonder what is going on... Well I tell what is going on...Mr. Dobbs is selling rage to American people for personal ratings and unfortunately people are buying it. Don’t forget not to long ago Mr. Dobbs was registered Republican advocating for Wall Street’s policies during his reporting as a business journalist at this same CNN Network. He never really got the ratings so he hit upon an issue that makes people angry. Now he is an independent but do you have any doubts why was he not independent to begin with? You may disagree with all what I said but just think about it...people like Dobbs don't need solutions they need issues which get them ratings. They care less about us, they care about themselves. Always think critically about any thing said in any news channel…don’t let people like Dobb’s do the thinking for you.

Sorry, I for one don't care what he calls her, although incompetent Bush puppet would have been better, and, since she and the rest of the black Republicans say there is no longer and never has been any sort of racism in this country and certainly not in 2008, much ado about nothing.

I think he did catch himself and didn't want to be insensitive. But seriously, no one has ever heard the expression "this cotton pickin'" whatever. I hear old white men say it and they don't think it has any racial connotation (how could it not right?) At least Lou caught himself.

I don't have a problem with what he said, or almost said. I've heard that expression before, and he was making, or almost making, that statement toward any idiot like Rice. I, personally, like Lou Dobbs. Immigration is a part of the war on middle class. True, it's not the fault of the immigrants, whose country is kept underdeveloped, but they are still a part of the equation. Has anyone tried to get a visa or work permit for another country----particularly a European country? It's damn hard. I've tried.

I've heard the expression all my life and never once thought it had racial connotations -- it's just one of those terms like "fudge" or "doggone" that you insert in place of cussing, and it just meant "common." Now that I think about it, it was always associated with the South, so I suppose it originated in a place where most unskilled farm workers were (by numbers) black, but, since it came from country comedians, the mental image I always had was of a sort of hillbilly white guy. And Tennessee Ernie Ford used to say "pea-pickin'" instead, and more as a term of endearment than an insult -- he used to sign off with "bless your little pea-pickin' hearts," maybe because he came from a tradition where working in the fields was an okay thing. All of which means I've already given this a great deal more thought than it deserved in the first place. But, gosh, I wonder how many people really had to dig this deep into their dictionary to find Lou Dobbs offensive. Had they been seeing him as a role model for racial sensitivity before?????

Pete, Bless you. I sincerely think that from your personal perspective, you have heard "cotton pickin'" mean something that has been watered down from its original use. COTTON PICKIN used to almost always precede NIGGERS when used and was almost always used by SOUTHERN WHITE MEN when talking about their blacks and how they should know and stay in their place. LOU DOBBS is not from the South and that wasn't a reference that would readily slip from his lips. I have never heard such a blatant and unprompted slur. As BRUCITO stated, he said what he wanted to say and stopped exactly where he didn't to stop in order to not have calls for his firing raging against blogs and newscasts. It was a reprehensible act and the lowest thing I have seen him do to date. Sadly, what Dr. Rice said was "SLAVERY IS AMERICA'S BIRTH DEFECT," thus saying something that was a part of the BIRTHING of this nation, making NO commentary on present day Americans, but rather how we were founded. She said a lot more than just that, but it was such a buzzphrase that SHE must have known that many would run with it. Perhaps that was her intent. Sadly, many have proven that their intent with it was to instantly distort it. TJ I believe that Lou understands the context in which he chose to use the phrase. It is funny how folks like Mr. Dobbs argue that slavery is a thing of the past and has no relevance in today's society. It is said that black descendants of American slaves should let slavery go. Yet, he managed to call Condoleeza a cotton picker. Whether he is referring to cotton picked by African slaves during slavery or cotton picked by free, but disenfranchised blacks during the sharecropping era, he is unwittingly showing why Condoleeza and any other aware black person should recognize and acknowledge the "birth defect." With his bigoted remark, Mr. Dobbs, himself, acknowledges that Condoleeza Rice and all African Americans that choose not to forget the scars that the brutal nature of chattel slavery left on blacks and whites in this country are, in fact, still suffering from the legacy of slavery. If his type of vitriolic dialogue will somehow force America to examine the darkest stain on its past, so be it.

Let me get this correct. Condelezza Rice is the Secretary of State. The head of all foreign based diplomats, correct? According to the PBS documentary Bush's war she had to get permission from the president to reign in Paul Bremmer because he was more or less ignoring her and reporting more to Rumsfeld and Chaney but he was suppose to be under her authority from the get go? Does anyone see a powerful black woman here or is this the perfect example of what can only be referred to as a pick-a-ninny? Lou Dodds is one of the bigest loud months in this country. He uses Cnn to say what he really wants to say to blacks and any other people that are not of his skin color. I will have to break some hearts on this one. A Daily Voice reporter provides a series of quotes which I will not attribute for ease of reading. All quotes originate from the article to which we are responding. "...Africans and Europeans came here and founded this country together...." (Rice) I do not know. I have some issues with this statement. Yes, blacks played a role in the development of America, a very important role. None of us would question these significant contributions by blacks to our country over the centuries. Founders, I have difficulties with this. Use of founders suggests a voluntary action. Slavery is certainly not voluntary. This could be easily turned around. I would say my red peoples were founders of our country along with Europeans. American Indians contributed to the founding of our country much earlier than arrival of black slaves. Based on logic of Rice, our country was already founded before black slaves were brought here, with much tragedy. Reads to me Rice is stretching the truth to fit her personal agenda. I am more comfortable with simple acknowledgment many different peoples contributed to the founding of America, and this founding did not take place until our break with England, much later in our country's early history. There are no true founders of America. "...remarks made by Sen. Barack Obama recently that race-based slavery was America's 'original sin'...." This we know is absolutely untrue. This is shamefully untrue. I am certain intelligent readers know why this is untrue and know why this is insulting. America committed a lot of sins, but slavery is not the "original sin" of our country. Both Rice and Obama are stretching the truth to fit their individual personal agenda. I am quite insulted by their words. On this "cotton picking" remark by Dobbs, quite clear he is playing Black America. Many participants here are playing right into his hand. The Daily Voice certainly played into his hand. Dobbs deliberately tossed out his partial utterance to prove a point. The many have missed the most important word of his sentence. This is our word "these" just before his cotton reference. A Daily Voice reporter fell into Dobb's semantic trap. Dobbs could not be referring to Rice, she is not plural. Our word "these" is plural. Dobbs played America and he played this perfectly. Dobbs is making fools of a lot of people. He has led many to react precisely as he says people will react. So, now we are not allowed to use our expression "cotton picking" for fear of being labeled racist. Lou Dobbs is the man. He is about the only voice in the press who will tell you the truth whether you like it or not. Half of the comments above don't even spell his name correctly, probably have never read his books, and lastly want the government to take care of everyone. No wonder so many educated and concerned electorates are registering as Independents. Most of the above of course will all be voting Democratic or Republican and thereby letting the special interest elitists to continue to control the world and America.
