81% think America is on the wrong track
Staff Reporter | Posted April 4, 2008 10:09 AMThe Times poll asked if Americans felt "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track." Eight out of 10 respondents agreed with that statement, up from 69 percent a year ago.
"A majority of nearly every demographic and political group -- Democrats and Republicans, men and women, residents of cities and rural areas, college graduates and those who finished only high school -- say the United States is headed in the wrong direction," said the Times story. In fact, a full 78 percent said the country was "worse off than five years ago." Only 4 percent of respondents said the country was "better off."
The war is still an important issue for Americans, but the economy seems to be driving much of the discontent as well. Although the government has yet to acknowledge the economy is in recession, two-thirds of those polled believed the country is already in recession.
