Video: Did 'The West Wing' predict the election?

It's a story right out of Hollywood. Or maybe from Washington. A handsome congressman of color takes on an established Democratic frontrunner all the way to a brokered convention, wins the nomination and defeats a "straight-talking" Republican who is not well liked by the conservative base of his party.

It's also a story that the Obama campaign hopes will become a reality.  Call it life imitating art imitating life. The creators of the NBC drama "The West Wing" developed a story line four years ago that involved a hotly contested campaign and the election of the first Latino president (played by Jimmy Smits). They consulted with Democratic strategists who helped them develop the idea.

One thing "The West Wing" didn't predict was that the two Democratic frontrunners would be a woman and an African American.  Maybe that would have been too unrealistic in 2004.
