I can't remember the last time I missed an opportunity to vote. I'm so committed to voting, that I once voted for a Republican over a Democrat who I thought was wacky and racially insensitive. However, I do remember the last time I was inspired to vote. It was yeeeeaaaaarrrrrsssss ago. This year, Obama has inspired me.
Obama's candidacy not only encourages us to participate in the process but offers us the opportunity to examine almost everything about our national identity from the way campaigns are run and the role of the federal government, to our feelings about race and family. He helps us feel hope when we consider the distance this nation has traveled, and our ability to accomplish even more. This year I can hit "refresh" on my belief in the good government can do, as well as the people who run the government. I can enjoy voting for something, not against someone. Who knew voting could be FUN again?!
